Most cemeterians are familiar with grave blankets: beautifully embellished evergreen boughs placed over a loved one’s grave like a blanket. Grave blankets can be ornate or elegantly simple, purchased or handmade. One thing they all have in common is the special significance they hold.
Around the holiday season grave blankets adorn the gravesites of our cherished loved ones who have passed, allowing us to feel connected to them once more. This can be a special and important tradition for your cemetery’s visitors each year just as the last leaves fall from the trees and we prepare for the first snow of the season.
Although grave blankets are beautiful to look at, some cemeteries don’t allow them. This is most likely because the removal process can be difficult and tedious. Don’t let the clean-up process hinder your cemetery from offering these time-honored, traditional displays.
