When cemetery staffs and boards celebrate their facility’s anniversary, there is a lot of reasons to be excited. The community looks to said cemetery as a pillar of the community, whose professionalism helps comfort those who are in need of their services. So when you’ve been around as long as the Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown, Maryland–150 years to be exact–there’s good reason to celebrate.
Not only is the cemetery celebrating their 150th anniversary, they are doing so with a new Executive Director, Colleen Rafferty.
Colleen came on-board at the tail end of August and hit the ground running with helping to set up the 150th anniversary celebration, but moreover, she has taken to her new position with a career background in sales and marketing, but her biggest strength is her passion to help people who come to her cemetery. “‘You cannot do this job without the desire to help people,’ she said (150th Celebration).”
The 150th Anniversary celebration will be taking place today at the cemetery and will include speeches from Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, Hagerstown Mayor David S. Gysberts, Stephen Bockmiller, the city’s development planner and zoning administrator, and two Rose Hill Cemetery board members. The ceremony will begin at 3:00 PM.
